Why This Blog
I am not a teacher, not an academic, not an EdTech founder. So why am I building this blog, this initiative?
Because of a question I kept hearing from students I meet, from conversations with friends who are parents: “Why is the point in studying this?”
Out of curiosity, I ask the children about the reason for studying the chapters in the curriculum. The reply is – We study because it’s there in the curriculum and will be asked in the exams! There are no answers to what is it used for?
I went looking for the answer. I expected to find it easily – surely someone has written a clear explanation of why we study trigonometry, where complex numbers are actually used, what calculus does inside real machines. Surely some textbook or website explains this properly.
I couldn’t find it. Not in school textbooks, which teach the method but never the purpose. Not in coaching materials, which focus on test preparation but never the meaning. Not on YouTube, where thousands of channels explain how to solve problems but almost none explain why the problems matter. Not on any blog or website that covers this systematically, topic by topic, mapped to what students actually study in class 9–12.
So I started researching and writing it myself.
Each module on this blog takes one topic from the school curriculum – trigonometry, calculus, complex numbers, probability, kinematics and traces it into the real world. Not the generic “trigonometry is used in engineering” but specifically how does GPS use sine and cosine to locate our phone to within 3 metres? Why a car’s ABS system solves a calculus equation in real time? How does AC electricity use complex numbers? How does a missile track its own position by integrating acceleration when it has no GPS signal? These are the actual engineering systems that run on the mathematics and science taught in school. The students just don’t know it because nobody tells them.
I believe career awareness doesn’t start in college. It starts the moment a student understands that the trigonometry chapter they are studying is the same mathematics that keeps an airplane stable in the sky. The real transformation begins when a subject stops being just an exam topic and starts giving a sense of purpose.
I am working to complete the modules covering the full syllabus with other plans to follow.
This is not a funded project. There is no team behind it. I research, write and publish each module in my personal time. It grows slowly, but it grows.
